Scenes from the Overtown Garden
In the early 1960s, a freeway divided Overtown into fractions of mostly unusable land equalling 43 acres. Overtown no longer has hotels, motels, theaters, restaurants, factories, parlors, or a hospital. The population of blacks has dropped from 100,000 in the 1960s to 14,000 today.
